Hundreds of years ago in the nation of Judah, an eight-year-old boy became king. He was in possession of unusual wisdom and knowledge. The kings that preceded him led Judah to ruin. They did not know, nor did they serve the Lord God Jehovah. This eight-year-old king was known as Josiah. The Lord tells us that “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord… not turning aside to the right or to the Left” (2 Chronicles 34:1) Josiah did not follow in the path of his father, Amon. Kind Amon “did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done” (2 Chronicles 33:22) This is all that scripture says about the first eight years of his ruler ship, but that is enough. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. May it be said of your life that “you do what is right in the eyes of the Lord.”
When Josiah celebrated his sixteenth birthday, HE began to seek after the God of his father, David. He sought God for four years, until he was twenty years old. When he turned twenty, he began to clean up the nation of Judah; to get rid of idols and images that represented false gods. God pronounced judgment on Judah because the nation did not follow in His ways. Josiah earnestly sought the Lord for forgiveness. Because his heart was right with God, the Lord said Josiah, would not see the disaster that was going to come upon Judah. In 2 Chronicles 34:33 the word of God says that “as long as they lived, they did not fail to follow the Lord.”
When you keep your eyes on the Lord, you will not need to worry about your life. In living, you will encounter suffering, difficulties, and most likely illness and other hardships. Therefore, you need to be sure you walk in accord with the Lord and not turn aside from living a life of obedience to Him. All you have to do to live a blessed life is to keep your eyes on the Lord and live in obedience to Him. Do not turn to the right or to the left. Just look straight ahead and keep your eyes on Jesus.
