Hope in hard times

The Bible tells you to be perfect. In the New Testament the word “perfect” means possessing maturity, completeness, reaching the goal that has been set. And the Lord constantly moves the goal just when you think you’ve arrived at the finish line. He gives you a second wind, the breath of His own Spirit, to run on with the fresh oxygen of hope. There are times when you realize that moving on to reach the mandates of the Master will stretch you and you’re now sure you are willing. That forces you to answer the Lord’s question to Israel “Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’” (Isaiah 45:9) Sometimes your honest answer would be, “Well Lord, I guess I do wonder at times. AS a matter of fact, I’l like to have these things remain as they are for awhile.” Or , you might say, “I don’t like what is happening. I’l like to have these things changed and here’s the way I want them to be.”

That’s a sure sign that you need a fresh experience of hope- a backward looks, then an inward look, then an inward look, then an upward look, then an outward look, and finally forward look. “For i know the thoughts that i have toward you, says the Lord, thought of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and i will listen to you. And you will seek me and fine me, when you search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord.” (Jeremiah 29:11-14) “We are saved by hope” (Romans 8:24) We “rejoice in hope” (Romans 12:12) “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope” (Romans 15:13) “The Lord will be the hope of His people” (Joel 3:16) “You are my hope, O Lord God” (Psalms 71:5)

You need to remember how the Lord has given you hope in hard times. Looking inward, you can see the progress He has accomplished in making you hopeful. Then you can look in Him and pray, “Lord, I know that you are not finished with me. You always have hope for me. Now give me renewed hope for myself and get me moving again. You are the Potter and I am Your clay.”

Pray that prayer and you will be given a new forward look and hope to sustain you in hard times.
